High resolution satellite image mosaic for a highway project in Algeria
As basis for the planning of a new highway section in Algeria, eoVision has prepared and delivered digital terrain data and a VHR (very high resolution) satellite image mosaic with a ground resolution of 60 cm. The mosaic was produced using 15 scenes acquired by the satellites QuickBird and WorldView-2.
The work done by eoVision comprised:
- Data acquisition, focused on the search for available datasets, consultancy for the selection of applicable satellite data and the purchase of satellite raw data from the satellite data providers. Additionally a high resolution DTM (Digital Terrain Model) derived from satellite data was purchased.
- Orthorectification, based on the DTM and ground control points provided by the client. In order to achieve a seamless image mosaic, the individual satellite images were orthorectified using a block adjustment procedure. Additionally, tie points were defined for the transition zones (overlaps) between the neighbouring scenes.
- By spectral optimisation and mosaicking the individual satellite images have been optimized with respect to their colouring and were combined into a homogeneous and seamless satellite image mosaic.
- Data management to guarantee the applicability of the satellite image mosaic within the client's planning software tools.
