Area classification:
Information about the distribution of the population is important for urban and regional planning, as e.g. infrastructure requirements are directly related with it. Satellite image classifications of the built-up area are prepared e.g. to obtain an exact estimate of the proportions of green areas and different settlement densities provides important additional information.
Sealing of Soils:
Knowledge about sealed surfaces impermeable for water is important both for planning canalisation systems and for flood risk mitigation. Using radar satellite data, the degree of sealing is mapped and integrated into these applications.
Terrain analyses:
The surface relief of a landscape has impacts in numerous fields, ranging from the usability of an area for agriculture to the planning of infrastructures such as roads or canalisation. Exact and up-to-date terrain information is derived from radar satellite data.
Change analyses:
Especially urban regions are very dynamical with respect to land use – cities are expanded into areas on the outskirts, the settlement density within the cities increases. Analyses of these changes provide important information for further planning tasks.
